When a car dealer, or any business for that matter, does not care about the performance of the their website then they don’t care about the business. Saying they don’t care…, Wow, that statements sounds harsh doesn’t it? The problems that the independent car dealers deal with on a daily bases is vast. I understand. Most dealers will just find a cheap website development company that offers other services and let them put it together for them. There is no plan and no search engine optimization. But is it because they don’t care or is it because they don’t know any better? I think it is mostly that they don’t know any better. That is why I want to give you a few pointers when it comes to websites and how they can be effective inbound marketing tools.

The first step is picking a company that is going to give you a good effective product. Companies that make this type of product know they are in demand and most charge between 300 to 600 a month.

Here is a short list to picking out a good websites.

  • Responsive Design
  • Relevant Text
  • About Us or Bio
  • Inventory Management
  • CRM (Customer Relation Management)
  • Social Media Integration
  • Blog
  • Call To Action

  • Responsive Design

A responsive site uses the latest in design and coding. What it does is let the website auto adjust its content to fit on whatever device or screen it is being viewed on. Like adaptive cruise control on a vehicle. This is what search engines like to see. Technologies rule and in this case makes it easier for the customer to use and to find with Search Engines.

These are the words on the website that search engines catalog. Very Important to your website’s SEO. I can talk about relevant text on websites till the cows come home. The problem is that all these companies out there talk about SEO and how they are going to help you but the websites never have text relevant to what the car dealers customers are searching. Think or look at your website. Does it say something about “quality pre-owned vehicles”? Now how many times does it say “used cars”? The customer is searching using “used cars” not the other thing. The company you work with needs to put relevant text on the website so you rank better than the other guys.

  • About Us or Bio

This isn’t so much for SEO as it is for customer relations. You want your customers to know who you are before they ever get to the store. You only get one chance to put your best foot forward. Let them get to know you and you could win before you know you are in the game.

  • Inventory Management

You website will have a back end tool to load inventory or a data feed will come from your Dealer Management System (DMS). You need to be able to manage your inventory and load pictures. Most companies are setup to load via a DMS or from an app you have to download to a smartphone. Having your inventory management system online and responsive means you can manage your inventory from anywhere with internet and you can do it from any device.

  • CRM (Customer Relation Management)

You need to be able to keep track of those leads that came in. A CRM will be able to help you keep everything straight. Not to many companies have a CRM they can offer with a website but if you can get the two of them together then even better.

  • Social Media

The website should be able to link with your Social Media. You want your social media and website to work together. You want as many links to your website as you can going out. This will help drive traffic and increase your SEO. Make sure your new site will be able to integrate your social media

  • Blog

A blog is a way for you to put more relevant text on your website by putting out information for the customer. It is a win win for the dealer. You can build your SEO through relevant text and inform your customers at the same time. A good website provider will provide topics or advice on blogging for you.

  • Call to Action

A call to action button on the website are those buttons you see asking if the customer wants information about a vehicle.
